Biography

Ross Douglas---Eclectic is good.
Three albums of highly praised tunes have basically proven that Ross Douglas does not easily fit into one category as a songwriter ,but several.
His first album “Two Directions” was described as “Folk,Celtic,African Cajun,Caribbean,Theatrical stuff filtered through the mind of a guy whose life was changed by the Beatles.” His second album “Caribou Eclectic” revealed his blues and jazz influences as well as more of his great sense of melody and deft humour.
His third “The Art of You and I “ has presented us with 2 songs that have been called “instant classics” The darkly comic “The Ukulele Crime” about the perils of bad musicianship and the truly silly “Hard Not to Talk like Elvis” .As well it produced what one reviewer called “a truly wonderful and universal song about a small prairie town”
“Town for Tired People."
So you don’t really know what you’re in for next but it all seems to work.
A strong theatrical background has helped fuel a songwriting approach where variety makes perfect sense. He toured much of the world as the piano player for “Billy Bishop Goes To War”,won a Jessie Award for his musical direction of “Angry Housewives”
and for 10 years was a writer, musician, performer and musical director at The Theatre Royal in historic Barkerville B.C.
He now writes songs about people, places and events that are sly-poignant-silly -bombastic, often adopting characters to convey them. His songs have been praised for their humour, poetry and emotional power.
As one radio producer noted” Mr Douglas is a great songwriter and yes—eclectic is the word.”



Instrumentation
I have recently performed solo -most of the time,on piano guitar,mandolin,ukulele with a bit of Banjo and harmonica.
I occasionally hire a guitarist,fiddler and bassist and if I have the cash another singer
