Biography
Owen grew up in the Black Country and led the John Peel-endorsed San Lorenzo for a good few years (touring with Idlewild and appearing on Radio 1) before his solo takes saw daylight with the home-recorded Box of Tapes in 2001. That was all hazy after-school jams and finger-picked myths, but things turned more song-based with From a Lost Library in 2003. Containing some of his finest narrative songwriting, Splendid ‘zine said it “weaved a magical web of story and music.” This album saw the start of Owen’s occasional use of the same characters in songs, their lives unfolding over the years.

Owen flew to Northern Italy to make Place (2004, Bearos Records) with local musicians, kicking around the Alps and writing tunes by the lakes. The resulting album blends band performances with delicate acoustics (which Time Out London called “uncluttered and intensely beautiful ballads”). Place saw the first appearance of the epic “John’s on the Bridge” which still closes Owen Tromans & The Elders sets with riotous klang.

Your Heart Is Not Broken (2005, Keep Recordings) showcased a folkier side to Tromans’ sound with the harmony-fuelled “Circle” and “Woodcutter Song” recorded with Joe Bennett of Goldrush.

Hope is a Magnet (2008, Sacred Geometry) was Owen's pop album, full of joyous melodies and lyrics which spun together suburban dreams and universal truths.

2008 also saw Owen's involvement in a collection of James Joyce poetry set to music. Chamber Music (Fire Records) also featured members of Sonic Youth and REM alongside Mercury Rev and Bardo Pond. Owen's contribution was hailed as "steely acoustic guitar with lashings of romantic sentiment," by The Observer who included the track as a 'download of the week.'

Owen is currently working on the first album to be credited to Owen Tromans & The Elders. To be titled "The Fall of Acre", this album features Owen's touring band and is a song-cycle based on the interconnected lives of characters from Owen's previous songs.

Over the last year Owen has toured the UK, sharing stages with Plush, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Autumn Defense, Angus and Julia Stone and Holy Ghost Revival among others.
