Gli Orange, con il loro esordio “Certosa”, uniscono nello
stesso disco in modo credibile l’uso del cantato italiano
a quello inglese (con una pronuncia impeccabile),
condensando in 33 minuti attitudine garage, pensiero
pop ed estetica metropolitana.
Il combo, forte di un disco davvero ben registrato,
racconta una Milano diversa da quella che siamo abituati
a rappresentarci. Una città fatta di feste in casa, sale
prove fumose, amore e cantine (da qui il titolo del disco).
Enrico Buttafuoco alla batteria e Francesco Maria
Mandelli chitarra e voce sfoderano una canzone più
immediata dell’altra da canticchiare sotto la doccia o da
ballare. Si parte con l’imponenente e quasi kinskiana
Susy, forte di una grande conquista armonica, passando
per gli episodi più malinconici e decadenti ma sempre
sostenuti quali Certosa e Mercury Drops, secondo la
lezione insegnata dai migliori Strokes. Impreziosisce il
boogie espressionista di Clarissa e il rock’n’roll sguaiato
ed elettrico di Richard e CRDC tra Kings of Leon e
Stone Roses.
Che poi Francesco sia anche il noto volto di MTV non
è certo un mistero ai più, ma ascoltando questo disco
viene forte il dubbio che la sua vera vocazione sia
invece quella del rock n roll, perchè in fondo questo è
Certosa un buon disco di rock n roll in cui le percussioni
ora ossessive ora meno tribali e più pulite di Chicco
sostengono la bella voce e la chitarra di Francesco.
